Silver Can Motors
The brushed 540J “silver can” motor that comes standard with Tamiya RTRs and many Tamiya kits is still the lowest-cost way to propel an RC race car.
Before using a silver can motor you need to break it in for best performance. Then you need to prep the motor for use by installing any necessary diodes or capacitors and mounting a cooling fan. After using your motor for awhile you need to clean it. The following article covers these three topics.
