Tamiya Mini
My first on-road racing car was a Tamiya Mini. Mini (with TCS rules) is a great spec class. The cars aren't very fast but they are huge fun to drive. Kids and other spectators love them because they look like real cars. But the best part is that they aren't going to be any faster next year, so you can run the same car. Minis are a welcome relief from the upgrade treadmill of exotic touring car chassis and brushless speed controls.
Here's an article that explains how to buy, prepare, and race a Mini. No experience necessary, just a desire to have fun!

The previous document was written mainly from the perspective of racing outdoors on asphalt. Here's a short document explaining how to make the Mini handle well when racing on carpet.

Tamiya makes a large selection of bodies for the Mini. Here's a document that lists the bodies (and body variants) that are available, with pictures.
